Membership Form

Welcome to Nailsea Running Club's website. The club was founded in 1986 by a small group of enthusiasts and since then has grown to be one of the major running clubs in North Somerset. We cater for runners of all abilities, from those who want to run just to keep fit, to those who want to race over anything from 5k to a marathon and beyond! The emphasis is very much on individual choice; you do as much or as little as you want, although we encourage everyone to be an active participant in some aspect of the club.

Fees

Currently £15 for adults and £5 for juniors, payable to the membership secretary on joining and annually on 1st September thereafter. NRC members are also social members of the Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club, which is our club headquarters. Changing, showers and a bar are all available at the rugby club and members are encouraged to use these facilities and to socialise in the bar after runs. Membership includes an affiliation fee to the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).

Training Runs

Club runs are on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7pm, from the Rugby Club. Both nights include steady training runs, either on or off-road depending on the time of year. On Tuesdays there is also a more structured training session generally organised by "club-coach" Jim Stewart. On Sunday mornings there is usually a long run at 8.30am, starting at the Queen’s Road / Trendlewood Way junction.

Events Organised by NRC

We currently organise three races: An off-road race, the Ironwood Challenge (March), and two road races; the Long Ashton 10k (early June) and the Nailsea Festival 10k (late June). We rely on the help of all members to organise these popular races. There are also a whole host of social events throughout the year including cycle rides, barn dances, skittle evenings, family fun day, caving, canoeing and an annual trip to a continental half-marathon. See the our monthly Newsletter for more details!

Kit

Club vests should be worn when racing and are available from the kit secretary at cost price. Other items such as non-racing T-shirts are also available. The only essential kit for running is a proper pair of running shoes. Go to Easy Runner (Bristol) or Sweatshop (Westbury-on-Trym) for expert advice. A 10% discount is available for running club members. Both shops also have a good selection of running clothing.

Racing

Most NRC members enter races, although we do not tend to enter many events as teams. Members of all abilities are encouraged to compete and most find it an enjoyable and indispensable part of their sport. There are a whole host of different races available including on-road, off-road and multi-terrain. See the NRC Newsletter for details or look at the Runners World or Runners Web UK websites for details of races.

The NRC League

We organise an internal league of nominated races each year, with your best 8 results counting. There are five categories: Senior Men, Vet Men 40, Vet Men 50, Senior Women and Vet Women 45. The annual winner and runner-up in each category gets an award. Apart from the league trophies there are a number of other annual awards for sporting achievement and contributions to the club. These are presented at the club's annual dinner.

Committee

A committee elected at the AGM each spring runs the club. Committee meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month after club runs, and non-committee members are welcome to attend if they have a point that they wish to raise.
